Shrimp and avocado French bread is an easy recipe with only 5 ingredients. Serve as a party appetizer or as a pizza alternative for a main course.
I’ve never been a very big fan of English Muffin Pizzas, but I’ll take a French Bread Pizza any day! This is not quite a full-on pizza recipe, maybe more of a flatbread. But it fits the bill for me, so we make it often.
It’s an easy thing to throw together if unexpected company pops by too! Only 5 ingredients and about 10 minutes from when you start till it’s being served.
If you’re always collecting quick and easy recipes, this one needs to get added to your stash!
How to Make Cheesy French Bread
I usually only make 1/2 of a loaf of French Bread at a time since that gives us plenty of servings. Be sure to save the other half for another recipe- stuffed French Bread, homemade croutons, a breakfast casserole.
So many options! And if you don’t think you’ll use the other half before it goes bad, just freeze it. I usually cube mine and then throw it in a freezer bag to save for later.
But back to our shrimp bread recipe using half of a loaf of French bread. Lay it out on a cookie sheet and top with avocado slices. I used half an avocado for this piece of bread.
If you add too much avocado, it gets a little slippery and kind of hard to handle.
For the shrimp, I used about 1/2 a pound of shrimp that I got into large pieces. I added them to a small skillet with 1/2 cup of salsa and just saute for a couple minutes. The shrimp is already cooked so you’re just heating it through without letting it go too long.
Then spoon just the shrimp and salsa on top of the avocado. If you have excess juices in the pan, don’t pour that on. That will just make your bread soggy.
Top with about one cup of shredded cheddar cheese. You want to make sure you cover all the shrimp pieces and avocado slices with the cheese because that will act like the glue that holds it all together.
Then broil it for 2-3 minutes or just until the cheese starts melting and turning light brown.
You don’t want to cook it so long you overcook the shrimp, but get that cheese all nice and golden!
Then slice it up and serve! I usually get 8 slices out of one half of my loaf which is plenty for us! Especially since it doesn’t reheat very well, this is a recipe where I don’t really like to have a lot of leftovers.
