These easy buffalo chicken egg rolls made in the air fryer are the perfect party appetizer! Loaded with the flavors of your favorite buffalo chicken dip, they’re perfect to dip in blue cheese dressing!
I’ve been wanting an air fryer for a year or more now and the main reason was EGG ROLLS!!
Which is actually kind of weird, because I don’t really eat egg rolls all that often in normal life. But I just knew that if I had an air fryer, I could make all kinds of egg rolls and I was dying to experiment!
These Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls in the air fryer did not disappoint. Not even a little bit.
They taste so much like the classic buffalo chicken dip that everyone knows and loves, but they’re so much easier to eat in this little compact egg roll wrapper. And dipped in blue cheese dressing, they just become heavenly!
The egg roll wrapper gets nice and crispy in the air fryer and tastes just like you deep fried it in oil. But without all the extra fat and calories.
But the filling is where it’s at. Filled with shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, blue cheese crumbles, green onions and more. It’s so creamy with just the right amount of kick.
I also tested one of these egg rolls baked in the oven to see how it compared to the air fried version. Guys, I’m not even going to show you the picture of it. I got more burnt looking than fried and didn’t taste anywhere near as good. It also took quite a bit longer than the air fryer!
Ingredients needed for this recipe: shredded chicken, buffalo wing sauce, cream cheese, blue cheese crumbles, green onions, shredded cheddar, egg roll wrappers, blue cheese dressing
How to Make Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls in Air Fryer
If you’ve never made egg rolls before, please don’t be intimidated. I promise you, it is much easier than you think!
For this recipe, the first step is to make the filling. In a large bowl, combine 4 ounces softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce, 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles and 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Be sure to stir it together well until it is all combined.
Then add 1.5 cups shredded chicken and 2 green onions that are finely chopped. Mix it together well with the buffalo cheese mixture.
Before you start, get a small container and fill it with water. The water will act as your glue to hold the wrapper together.
To assemble the egg rolls, I usually make an assembly line with about 4 egg roll wrappers lined up at a time. Turn the egg roll wrappers so that a point is facing you and it looks like a diamond. This makes it easier to fold them as you’re working.
Place about 2 tablespoons of filling towards the lower half of the diamond. Try to place the filling in a lot so that it resembles an egg roll.
Then fold the bottom point of the wrapper up over the filling to cover it.
Next, you’ll bring both of the sides in. If you have to, use your fingers to fold in the little corners at the bottom where the side meets the filling.
Now dip the tip of your finger in water and then run it along the top edges of the egg roll wrapper. You’ll want to run it along the entire point at the top and down a little along the sides.
Then start rolling the egg roll from the bottom up towards the top point.
Once you reach the top, fold the point over and press the edges down. The water should seal it together immediately. If it dried out a little, don’t be afraid to put another little dab of water along the seam.
Then place the wrapped egg rolls directly in your air fryer basket. I place them in a single layer with a little room between each one. This way they get golden and crispy the whole way around.
Lightly spray with a non-stick cooking spray so they get nice and browned.
Set your air fryer temperature to 370 degrees and cook for 10 minutes. I stopped the cooking halfway through to flip them over.
Can You Freeze Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls
Egg Rolls are one of those glorious foods that freeze beautifully!
They are perfect to make a large batch and keep in the freezer for unexpected guests or even for that night where you’re in the mood for a snack. You can just pull out one egg roll, cook it in the air fryer and you don’t need to worry about making (or eating!) the whole batch at once!
To freeze, just assemble them using the instructions above. After they’re all assembled, place them on a baking sheet that’s lined with parchment or wax paper. Then put the entire cookie sheet into the freezer for about an hour or so.
You want the egg rolls to be frozen solid before you transfer them to a gallon freezer bag. Once they’re frozen, place them in the freezer bag and store in your freezer until you’re in the mood for one.
To cook, just take a frozen egg roll out of the freezer and cook in your air fryer. I tested mine and it was cooked through at 380 degrees for 15 minutes (flipping halfway through).
