This classic meatloaf recipe has a delicious glaze that bakes on top for the best meatloaf around! It’s a total comfort food that’s always a hit!
While meatloaf might one of the hardest things to photograph, it’s one of America’s favorite things to eat. I’m not sure there’s a dinner that qualifies as comfort food more than meatloaf.
There are so many different variations and ways to make it, but my favorite is with a glaze baked on top. It almost caramelizes as it cooks and makes it taste like an whole other dish entirely!
Classic Meatloaf Recipe
Ingredients:
- eggs
- bread crumbs
- chopped onion
- ketchup
- dijon
- Worcestershire sauce
- minced garlic
- milk
- ground beef
Meatloaf might be one of the easiest things to make too, which makes it even more of a hit around here!
Combine every ingredient except for the ground beef in a large bowl. Stir really well to combine it all.
Once it’s mixed up, add the ground beef and mix well again.
Pat with your hands to form it into a condense loaf and place in a 9×5 loaf pan. If you don’t pat it together first, it will just crumble when you go to cut it. Imagine you’re forming hamburger patties and you have to pat it together firmly into a loaf.
Once you have it in the loaf pan, bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
While that’s cooking, it’s time to make the glaze that goes on top.
Meatloaf Glaze
Ingredients:
- tomato sauce
- vinegar
- brown sugar
- dijon
- Worcestershire sauce
Combine all the sauce ingredients together. If it’s too thick to spread, you can thin it out a little with a tablespoon or so of water.
Once the meatloaf has cooked for 40 minutes, remove it from the oven and spread the glaze all over the top.
Return to oven for another 15-20 minutes or until it’s cooked through.
Let sit for 5 minutes or so before cutting.
Can You Freeze Meatloaf?
You can also freeze this meatloaf before cooking it.
Just line your loaf pan with plastic wrap. Pat your meat mixture into a loaf form and place in the prepared pan. Wrap the plastic wrap around the meatloaf and then freeze for about 30 minutes.
Once it’s frozen, use the plastic wrap to remove it from the pan. Wrap again and place in a freezer bag until you’re ready to use.
When you’re ready to use it, just pull it out of the freezer and let it thaw in the fridge overnight. The next day, once it’s thawed, you can bake as normal.
