Easy recipe for homemade ranch seasoning so you can skip the expensive store-bought packages! There are so many ways to use this seasoning, that you’ll want to keep a batch on hand!
I wonder if anyone has ever taken a poll to see what the most loved seasoning flavor is in the United States? I bet ranch is right up at the top!
It just goes so perfectly with so many different dishes and it never seems to disappoint.
The only problem is the little seasoning packets can add up quickly. Making it yourself from home is not only more affordable, but you can actually control the amounts of some of the seasonings based on your taste preference.
Plus, it stores for quite a while using air-tight container, so it’s easy to whip up a large batch and just keep it in the pantry for whenever you need it!
Ranch Seasoning without Buttermilk Powder
This homemade version recipe is a little different than most recipes you’ll find for homemade ranch seasoning because it does not include buttermilk powder.
The vast majority of them start with dry buttermilk powder as the base. It gives it a little bit of a tang that you find in Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. And that’s not a bad thing at all!
But I was finding that every time I searched for a ranch seasoning mix recipe, I never actually followed through with making it because I don’t keep buttermilk powder on hand. And if I did buy it, I only needed a very small portion for this recipe and wouldn’t ever use the rest of it.
So I started experimenting with different spices and homemade seasoning mixes to see if I could come up with a blend that was close to the ranch flavor we all love but didn’t require buttermilk powder.
So while this might not be exactly like you would get if you bought the store-bought packets, it is very close and doesn’t have any obscure ingredients.
Ingredients for Homemade Ranch Seasoning
The base of the recipe is the parsley and then you add the other ingredients to compliment it. You can fiddle with the measurements a bit based on your taste.
If you really love your garlic, go ahead and add some extra. If you’re a fan of chives, feel free to throw a teaspoon or two in. Make it how you like it!
All you need to do is mix all the ingredients together and store them in a small mason jar or a Ziploc baggie until you’re ready to use them.
One packet of ranch seasoning is equal to about 2 tablespoons of this homemade mix.
And there are so many ways to use it! Some of our favorites are:
- as a salad dressing of course!
- as a dip like this Bacon Cream Cheese Dip that is a hit everywhere, I take it!
- Toss with stale bread cubes and a little olive oil for homemade ranch croutons
- Mix with parmesan and panko bread crumbs for Ranch Chicken Tenders
- Blend a little into your mashed potatoes for a fun twist on a classic side dish!
Homemade ranch seasoning mix is a great way to add flavor to your food while avoiding preservatives and other unhealthy additives. To make it personal, you can add your favorite fresh herbs into the mix. It’s also easy to make and goes well with any of your favorite ranch recipes. So if you are looking for spice mix ideas, there’s no excuse not to give homemade ranch seasoning recipe a try!
