It is very little in this world that tastes fresher than this Tzatziki appetizer! It is so good on sandwiches (it makes a giant mess as it drips everywhere, but it is so worth it!) and it works really well as a dip. This is so simple to whip up that you will never be tempted to buy the store-bought version again. It also tastes better than any store-bought tzatziki I’ve ever tried! I use this for souvlaki, sandwiches, as a veggie dip, and served with pita wedges.

Quick & Easy Tzatziki

I’ve put this recipe into the 5 ingredient appetizers category, but I’m going to give the full disclaimer here and say that if you count salt and pepper as ingredients, this actually has 7 but since I consider salt and pepper as just givens for almost every recipe, I’m going to go with this being 5 real ingredients! You can make this with cucumbers that are peeled or leave the skin on but I recommend leaving the skin on. It gives it just the tiniest hint of a crunch.

Grate 1 cup of an English cucumber. Add 1 1/2 cups of sour cream, 3 cloves of garlic, pressed, 3/4 tsp. dill, lemon zest, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix. That’s it!

This recipe is so forgiving and you can tweak it to your tastes. Add a little more dill or more lemon zest. Add a little less sour cream or more. Whatever. This is one of those no-fail recipes. Try it!

Grate the cucumbers. Squeeze them dry. Mix the sour cream, grated cuke, fresh dill, and garlic powder. Add lemon juice and stir well. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve. This sauce tastes great chilled.

Cucumbers are 95% water. This means that if you make a tzatziki sauce using cucumbers, you’ll be left with very little sauce. Therefore, you need to squeeze out as much water as possible before adding any other ingredients. You should also add more salt than usual to ensure that the cucumbers taste great.
