These peanut butter banana smoothies only take about 5 minutes to make and are a great meal replacement shake!
They might not look like much, but these peanut butter banana smoothies are packed with flavor and always a hit!
My kids make these delicious banana smoothie for themselves frequently because they just taste so good, are made from healthy ingredients, so aren’t bad for you either.
In fact, I try to get them to make these smoothies rather than having ice cream during the summer because they’re so much healthier. It’s great knowing exactly what ingredients go into the food you’re eating and being able to control how much of each flavor you prefer.
My son loves to make these smoothies after a workout because of its extra nutrients and health benefits. He adds a scoop of protein powder to his which helps keep him full longer, and he doesn’t even notice it’s in there.
My daughter prefers hers as a breakfast replacement. She’s never been a big eater when she wakes up, but I can easily get her to drink one of these smoothies so I at least know she’s starting off her day with something in her stomach!
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Ice– We actually buy a bag of ice from the grocery store that we keep in our freezer just for smoothies. I find it breaks up better in the blender than the solid ice cubes we get from our ice dispenser in the fridge.
Peanut Butter- Creamy peanut butter is the way to go for smoothies. You can use natural or organic peanut butter for this since you don’t need to worry about it separating the way you do with baked goods.
Honey- We use honey as our sweetener for these smoothies so we don’t have to add any extra sugar. You can definitely add sugar if you want the extra sweetness.
Bananas- You will want fairly firm ripe bananas for this smoothie recipe. You can use them fresh and it will be delicious or you can freeze them ahead of time to make your smoothie even more like ice cream.
Milk- We always use skim milk, but if you use whole milk it will taste even richer and more indulgent!
Put the lid on securely and then pulse for about 30-45 seconds until everything is blended really well. You may need to stop halfway through and use a long spoon to push some of the bananas and ice down towards the blade.
Just make sure there are no large chunks left.
Then pour into glasses and enjoy immediately!
This recipe makes 4 servings about the size of small mason jars. You can easily halve the recipe if you don’t want quite that much.
It does not store that well, so I recommend making it right before you want to enjoy it and not trying to make it ahead of time.
