This Shrimp Cocktail Dip only has 3 ingredients and no mixing required! It could not be any easier, but it will be the hit of the party!
This Shrimp Cocktail Dip is the perfect party appetizer! It’s easy to make and always a hit with guests. The creamy shrimp dip is loaded with shrimp and is perfect for dipping crackers or veggies.
I’ve never met a shrimp dish I didn’t like and this one is no exception.
It almost feels too easy. Like there are steps missing or something because you can start making this cream cheese and cocktail sauce dip recipe and 3 minutes later be completely done and enjoying it.
I’ve taken it to numerous parties over the years and pretty much always come home with an empty pie dish. It’s a hit with everyone who eats it AND a hit with everyone who makes it because it’s just so simple!
How to Make Shrimp Cocktail Dip
All you need are block of cream cheese – softened, cocktail sauce and cooked shrimp. That’s it!
You can use jarred cocktail sauce, but I always have a batch of my homemade cocktail sauce in the fridge. That’s how often we eat fresh shrimp! And once you see how easy it is to make your own homemade cocktail sauce, I bet you’ll never spend money on jarred stuff again!
But for this recipe, the first step is to spread the softened cream cheese in the bottom of a pie dish.
Then you top it with the cocktail sauce.
And finally with the chopped shrimp.
The chopped shrimp is probably the most time-consuming part of the recipe. I usually buy large shrimp that are already cooked and then cut each shrimp into 3-4 pieces. The size is really up to you, but I like to really have a hearty piece of shrimp with each bite personally.
And that, my friends, is the entire recipe! You can prepare it a couple of hours ahead of time. I wouldn’t really prepare it the day before, though, because it tends to get a little watery.
It doesn’t affect the taste at all, but it doesn’t look the best if you’re taking it somewhere or having guests over.
We always serve it with crackers because the salt on the crackers pairs perfectly with the creaminess of the cream cheese.
This is my favorite cocktail sauce. It is easy to make and always a hit with guests. You can make it ahead of time and even freeze it. I like to use a combination of shrimp and crab meat, but you could use all shrimp or all crab meat.
