- 8 oz Cream Cheese softened
- 10 oz Frozen Spinach thawed and drained
- 1 packet French Onion Soup Mix
- 1 cup Sour Cream
Prep the spinach: Drain it well to remove excess moisture.
Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, cooked spinach, French Onion Soup, and sour cream.
Mix the goodness: Combine all ingredients until thoroughly blended. Ensure that the onion soup mix is evenly incorporated into the mixture.
Cover: Put a piece of plastic wrap over the mixing bowl and refrigerate for 1-2 hours to let the flavors blend, and the dried onion softens.
Bake: Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes, or until well heated.
Stir: Give the dip a good swirl before serving. You can adjust the consistency if it's too thick by adding a bit more sour cream.
Serve: Serve hot or cold, with dippers such as thick slices of crusty sourdough bread, plain potato chips, crackers, or a variety of fresh vegetables for an enjoyable dipping experience.
Store: Keep for five to seven days in the refrigerator.
- You can thaw spinach properly by refrigerating it overnight. If time is of the essence, use the defrost setting in the microwave.
- Use a sieve, paper towels, or a fresh kitchen towel to remove any extra water from the frozen spinach. If not, the dip may taste less creamy and more watery.
- Hollow out a circular loaf of bread and serve it like a bread bowl for a top-tier presentation. Carefully remove the bread, cube it, and use it as dippers.
- To prevent the bread loaf from becoming hard in the oven, cover its exterior with foil if you are heating the dip in the bread bowl.
Rest/Cooling Time
- Minimum: 1 hour for basic softening
- Best Taste: 2-6 hours or overnight for peak flavour.
- Serving: Serve cold straight from the fridge
Storage Notes
- Room Temperature: Avoid leaving at room temperature for more than 2 hours to prevent spoilage from dairy ingredients.
- Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to five days. Before serving, give everything a good stir to bring any separated ingredients back together.
- Freezing: Freezing is not recommended because it can cause texture separation in cream cheese and sour cream.
