  • 16 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 tsp whole milk
  • 10 slices American Cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 ½ cup white cheddar cheese, shredded and divided
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, shredded

Instructions

Boil the Macaroni:

  • Boil 2 quarts of salted water and cook the macaroni according to the package directions until al dente. Remove from the heat and drain.

Prepare the Cheese Sauce:

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the milk, American cheese, butter, and salt.
  • Cook over medium-low heat to melt the butter and cheese.
  • Once melted, add the sharp cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and 1 cup of the white cheddar cheese in small handfuls, whisking constantly until the cheeses are melted before adding more.
  • Once all of the cheeses are added and melted, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the macaroni.

Bake:

  • Preheat the oven to 350℉
  • Pour the mac and cheese mixture into a greased 8"x8" baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of white cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake until the upper layer is crusty and light brown, about 15 minutes.
  • Optional: Broil in the final 2 minutes of baking for a deeper golden brown crust.
