Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • ½ Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. Ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp. Yellow Mustard
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • ½ tsp. Pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 1 medium Tomato chopped
  • ¼ cup Mayonnaise
  • ½ Avocado

Instructions

  • Preheat Your Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cook the onions: Heat the oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and simmer until transparent, about 5 minutes.
  • Simmer the ground beef: Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Drain fat.
  • Cook the remaining ingredients: Add the garlic powder, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper, then stir everything together. Then cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, then turn off the heat.
  • Prepare the bread: Place the French bread loaf on a cookie sheet and cut off the top. Then remove the middle of the loaf and leave a “1" border on all sides and the bottom.
  • Fill the bread: Pour the cheeseburger mixture into the hollowed-out bread. Then add the remaining cup of shredded cheese on top.
  • Bake: Bake for about 15 minutes or until heated through and the cheese is melted. Then top with chopped tomato.
  • Prepare the mayonnaise and avocado topping: Place the mayonnaise and avocado halves in a small food processor and pulse until smooth. Cut off a corner, then spoon into a small ziploc bag. Drizzle the bread loaf.

Notes

  • Select a day-old French loaf between 20 and 24 inches for firmness.
  • Save the scooped bread crumbs and pulse them into the filling for binding, or use them in stuffing.
  • Make the beef filling a day or two ahead of time.
  • Stuff the French bread right before baking.
  • Use many loaves and double the ingredients if serving a large group.
  • Don’t overfill; mound slightly, as excess spills during baking.
  • Use a foil-lined sheet for easy cleanup.
