Episode 14: How to Reverse Heart Disease and Ace Plant Based Eating

Adopting an oil free, plant based diet filled with whole foods can have a miraculous effect on your health.

On this episode of the podcast, I talk with Lauren from Well Elephant about how she was able to reverse heart disease through a plant based diet.

According to the CDC Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In fact, one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. That is a scary statistic but it doesn’t have to be if we focus on changing the way we eat vs. treating just the symptoms of heart disease.

Reversing Heart Disease By Following a Plant Based Diet

In 2015, Lauren was diagnosed with coronary artery disease, on the podcast we go over these specific questions in regards to how she used diet to reverse her heart disease.

  1. What led you to research how you could reverse heart disease through diet?
    Lauren wanted to change the ‘root’ of her clogged artery problem vs. just treating it with medication.
  2. How was Dr. Esselstyn’s Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease book life changing?
    Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr. and the accompanying cookbook was life changing for Lauren. She adopted this new way of eating oil free, plant based and was able to reverse heart disease.

  3. How long did it take you to start seeing results of your new plant based lifestyle?
    Lauren first started to notice that she lost weight and then on some follow up doctor visits she learned she had dropped here cholesterol over 100 points and the size and shape of here blood platelets had changed (this is a huge sign of disease reversal).
  4. Why is it important to omit oil when following a specific reverse heart disease plant based lifestyle?
    An oil free diet void of animal products plays a very important part in reversing heart disease. To reverse heart disease, following a very low fat diet is essential.
  5. What are your best tips for eating out when you are following a whole food, oil free plant based lifestyle?
