- 1 3/4 cups water
- 1/2 cup 8 grain hot cereal
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 banana , sliced
- 2 Tablespoons raisins
- 1 Tablespoon walnuts , chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Your Favorite Toppings Fresh fruit, coconut flakes, honey, more nuts, more cinnamon, chocolate chips, or anything you can think of!
Combine water, cereal, cinnamon, and salt in a medium-sized saucepan. Stir well and bring to a low boil.
Stir in sliced banana, raisins, and walnuts. Return to a boil.
Reduce heat and cover with a vented lid.*
Cook covered for 10 - 15 minutes, stirring occasionally and adding additional water 1 tablespoon at a time if cereal starts to stick to the bottom of the pan.
Cool and serve with your favorite toppings.
- *I find a vented lid is best, otherwise this tends to boil over and make a mess on the stovetop! If you don't have a vented lid, just leave one corner of the lid at an angle on top of saucepan to let a small amount of heat escape.
