Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes

Cajun seasoning blend:

  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Kosher salt, to taste

Cooking spray

  • Optional: Additional salt for seasoning

Instructions

Step 1: Properly Cutting Your Potatoes

  • Cut the large russet potatoes in half and make 1/4" cuts lengthwise on each half.
  • Lay the slices flat and cut into 1/4" fries, ensuring even cuts.

Step 2: Soak Sliced Potatoes in Ice-Cold Water

  • Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of ice-cold water.
  • Let them soak for at least half an hour to remove excess starch.
  • Drain and rinse the potatoes.

Step 3: Drying Your Potatoes

  • Pat down each potato stick with paper towels to ensure they are thoroughly dry.

Step 4: Seasoning Your Cut Potatoes

  • Sprinkle the Cajun seasoning blend liberally on the fries, ensuring even coverage.
  • The seasoning is crucial for the distinctive Cajun flavor.

Step 5: Bake or Use an Air Fryer

    Oven:

    • Preheat the oven to 425ºF.
    • Lay the seasoned fries in a single layer on a hot baking sheet, sprayed with cooking spray.
    • Bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.

    Air Fryer:

    • Preheat the air fryer to 390ºF.
    • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then add the seasoned fries in a single layer.
    • Cook for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Notes

    • Always use fresh potatoes for the best texture and flavor.
    • Resist the temptation to use frozen fries, as they are pre-seasoned and lack the desired texture.
