Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 1–2 tablespoons of unfiltered, extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup apple juice or cider
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 minced and smashed garlic clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon of dry crushed red pepper
  • 1/3 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of bourbon
  • Sugar and salt for your cajun spice

Instructions

  • Begin by combining the cinnamon, ground cloves, apple juice, grated ginger, minced garlic, dry crushed red pepper, light brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, water, vinegar, and bourbon in a bowl. This will be your bourbon sauce.
  • Season the chicken breasts with your preferred cajun spice, then coat them with olive oil.
  • In a heated pan, add a small amount of butter and cook the minced garlic until it turns golden.
  • Cook the shrimp in the butter and garlic until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set them aside.
  • Clean the pan with a paper towel and add more butter. Cook the seasoned chicken breasts for 12–18 minutes or until they are fully cooked.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, add the cooked shrimp back to the pan and pour the prepared bourbon sauce over the chicken and shrimp.
  • Allow the sauce to simmer for a few minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
  • Serve the Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp over garlic mashed red potatoes and sautéed mushrooms and onions.

Notes

  • Marinating the chicken is essential for the flavor and texture.
  • Consider using chicken thighs for a tastier and more tender result.
  • A quick sear gives a fried taste without deep frying.
  • The bourbon flavor won't cook off in the first 10-15 minutes, so be mindful of alcohol content.
  • Serve with white rice to soak up the delicious bourbon chicken sauce.
